The MAKE project - WiSe 19/20
In the winter semester 19/20, the project MAKE started to work on the Solar Decathlon Europe 2021. This project is a cooperation project between students of the courses Master of Architecture (MA) and Bachelor of KlimaEngineering (KE). The task was to develop a design for the extension for the Solar Decathlon. The draft was influenced by the design perspective of the architecture students as well as the expertise of the students of the engineering course in KlimaEngineering.
A one-week workshop in Wuppertal and Düsseldorf served as a kick-off event. During this workshop the students were able to get to know the three situations selected by the organisers of SDE21, learn more about the competition and work intensively on their first ideas. The team of the HFT Stuttgart decided to plan an extension and renovation of the existing building. However, the location of the situation was moved from Wuppertal to Stuttgart. Specifically, an extension to the university building Building 5 of the inner city campus of the HFT Stuttgart is being worked on.
In the course of the semester, the ideas developed in Düsseldorf were deepened and optimised with the support of professors from various disciplines. The result of the work of the semester were 8 conceptual drafts of an extension with innovative ideas.
After the presentation of the drafts at the end of the semester, the student core team, professors and staff discussed the drafts that had been developed and selected four favourites for further work in the coming semester. One design serves as the basis for the floor plan of the living spaces, while the other designs take into account partial aspects such as the design of common areas or technology.
In this semester (summer semester 2020), the designs from the MAKE project were used as the basis for further work in courses from various study programs.
